Voluntary Car Scheme As part of the Cornwall Centre for Volunteers, the transport department operate a voluntary car scheme 24 hours a day, 365 days a year throughout the county, providing voluntry transport to everyone and anyone including various organisations such as: Social Services; Education PTU; Probation Services; Youth Offending Team; Dreadnought; ABLe (Active Blind Leisure Group); Sure Start; Cornwall Mental Health Groups; Kernow Doc; NHS; and TAP (Transport Access Passengers) to name a few. A team of dedicated transport co-ordinators work in the office in the Cornwall Centre for Volunteers Headquarters, Truro.
How does it work? Requests for transport are made by fax. Details that are required include: Name and address of passenger(s), pickup time, destination and any special requirements. The team of transport co-ordinators have access to a computerised database of drivers, and are able to contact the nearest available driver who then collects the passenger at the required time. |
