NEWDEAL

Who we are:

This department of CCfV manages the New Deal 18-24 Voluntary Option for the Employment Service. The contract is delivered by a countywide team of Placement Officers, supported by a job club facilitator and administration team. The Head Office is in Truro at 7-9 Old Bridge Street, opposite the entrance to the short-stay car park.

What we do:

The contract involves providing work experience in the voluntary or not for profit sector and arranging appropriate training for the clients to improve their chances of finding paid work. The New Deal opportunity normally lasts for 13 weeks and the client is expected to find work during that time, using the extra support provided by CCfV.

Placement Officers are attached to all of the Job Centres in Cornwall. Their role is to interview clients between the ages of 18 and 24 years old who have been out of work for 6 months or more and have been identified for one of the New Deal options. They then match the young person with appropriate work experience opportunities and arrange for the client to sample one or more ‘taster sessions’ before starting their 3 months on New Deal.

CCfV is also in partnership with DM Business Services to deliver the New Deal 25+. Although eligibility to participate in this New Deal is slightly different to 18-24, once on this programme, the opportunities and levels of support to the clients are the same.

After starting New Deal, the Placement Officer will negotiate an Individual Learning Development Plan and explain Job Search requirements and activities to be undertaken.  New Deal, clients will receive an additional weekly allowance, currently £15 per week on top of any benefits and are reimbursed for most of their travelling expenses.

So far, we have had over 2,600 clients through New Deal, almost half of whom find paid employment either during or shortly after completing their placement.  Our quality of delivery is monitored by the adult learning inspectorate and our last inspection report may be viewed by clicking here
