Cornwall Centre for Volunteers was pleased to have been involved with this year’s Cornwall Pride Event which took place in Truro on 23rd August 2008.

Like many organisations, we employ - and provide services for - a diverse range of people and this event allowed us to publicly celebrate that diversity of which we are rightly proud.

WE ARE THE HEALTH CHAMPIONS

Health Champion Cartoon ImageCornwall Centre for Volunteers, in partnership with the Health Promotion Service, is pleased to offer you the chance to become a Health Champion.

What are Health Champions?
Health Champions are volunteers within the NHS supporting health in the community throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

What do Health Champions do?
They work with NHS Projects that support the health of the Cornish community. Projects you could get involved with include
Leap Active – Getting more people more active more often in their own community
The Eatsome Project – Promoting healthy eating through practical and realistic sessions
Pedal or Stroll Back the Years – Change your world one mile at a time
Stop Smoking Service – Helping people who want to stop smoking

What do I get from it?
As well as possibly improving your own health, you can help others in your community do the same. It can also be a good insight into the workings of the NHS for those interested in a career in health.

Is there any training available?
The NHS will provide you with training to support your role. You can also gain accreditation for what you do as a Health Champion through CCfV.

Is there any financial support available?
We can help with the costs of travel and childcare so you should not be out of pocket.

Where can I volunteer?
Opportunities are available in most parts of Cornwall though not all schemes are available everywhere at all times. Contact us to find out what opportunities exist locally.
