Good Practice Guide for
Organisations Working with Young Volunteers

Cornwall Centre for Volunteers has been instrumental in developing a Good Practice Guide that has been published by Government Office South West.

The booklet ‘Good Practice Guidelines for Organisations Working with Young Volunteers ' takes the reader through the volunteer experience, from recruiting and selecting a young volunteer to the on-going support required and legal issues surrounding volunteering.

This Guide shows that there is a slight difference in the approach needed to recruit and manage young volunteers but the energy, enthusiasm and commitment they can bring will more than reward the initial investment in time and effort. Click here to view a copy of the Guide . If you are not able to open the file, please click on the pdf logo in the bottom corner to install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Cornwall Centre for Volunteers has also developed a twenty minute presentation based on this booklet, if you are an organisation that would like to involve volunteers aged
16 – 24yrs and feel that you could benefit from thispresentation please contact Laura Bushell on 01579 349092 or e-mail Laura@ccfv.co.uk

Volunteer England launches new ‘Risk Toolkit’

In a survey of organisations that involve volunteers, a third said they found the language and terminology of risk management baffling and 98 per cent were interested in a good practice guide. While around four-fifths practise risk management in some form, many are not sure whether they are doing the right things.
The Risk Toolkit explains the risks associated with volunteers and proposes how to deal with them. It is a resource for any organisation that involves volunteers – whether in the voluntary, statutory or private sector – and aims to simplify risk management for organisations just getting to grips with risk. It offers:

  • Information: the main risks, legal liabilities, insurance.
  • Advice and guidance: setting up and implementing systems.
  • Methods and templates: techniques, tools and forms.
  • Case studies: examples of organisations’ good practice.
  • Further sources: places to find out more.

CRB CHECKS

As an ‘Umbrella Body’, we can undertake CRB checks for volunteers, in many cases for little or no cost.

We are also able to undertake CRB checks for paid staff in voluntary & community groups who require them but for this we do make a charge of between £40-£50.

Contact us to discuss your needs.
